How do I maintain my flooring?

Paving Blocks:

  • Use a nylon brush to clean the grooves between paving blocks.
  • Regularly clean up debris to avoid accumulation on the surface.
  • Clean up oil spills, brake fluid, or other chemical spills immediately to prevent staining.
  • Avoid washing your car on paved driveways to prevent chemical damage.
  • Periodically use a water jet spray for hard-to-clean areas.
  • Apply a weed and moss control solution between the blocks, especially in outdoor spaces.
  • Reseal the paving blocks every few years to maintain their appearance and protection.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals like bleach, which can damage the surface or discolor the paving.

Chequered Tiles:

  • During installation, ensure the cement used for joint filling does not spill onto the tile surface, which can affect the appearance.
  • Do not use acid to clean chequered tiles, as this can cause surface damage.
  • Wash the floor regularly to keep it clean and looking fresh.
  • Use a nylon brush to clean the grooves of the tiles for deeper cleaning.
  • Avoid heavy impact or dropping objects onto the tiles, as this can cause cracks or chipping.
  • Periodically reseal the tiles to protect against water infiltration and preserve their color.

Terrazzo Tiles:

  • Remove stains as quickly as possible to prevent them from being absorbed into the mosaic material.
  • Start with dry dusting and follow with clean water and a recommended cleaning agent.
  • For maintaining a shiny finish, repolish the floor at regular intervals.
  • Avoid using acid to clean terrazzo tiles, as it can cause damage.
  • Waxing can cause dust build-up, leading to stains. Instead, use penetrating sealers that reduce the absorptive quality of the cement.
  • Use warm water with liquid detergent or a recommended cleaning agent for stain removal.
  • Regularly reseal terrazzo tiles to maintain their glossy appearance and prevent staining.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbers that can scratch the surface.

By following these maintenance guidelines, you can extend the life and beauty of your floorings, keeping them in pristine condition for years to come.

How strong are the pavers?
VYARA pavers are designed for the most demanding applications, including municipal roads, container yards, railway yards, industrial sites, and internal roads, as well as home backyards. By selecting the appropriate paving material for your project, you can ensure they will provide the strength and durability required for your specific application.
How soon can I get my pavers?
For in-stock materials, VYARA can dispatch your pavers within 3-4 days. Special orders typically take 4-6 weeks, depending on the specific products selected. Orders containing multiple product types may have longer lead times, while single-product orders are delivered more quickly.
Can paving stones be installed anywhere instead of asphalt or poured concrete?

Yes. VYARA paving stones can enhance the look and value of your projects instantly. With a wide selection of shapes and colours, the design possibilities for driveways, walkways, patios, pool areas, and sunrooms are endless. However, we recommend consulting our team for proper material selection to suit your specific requirements.

How well do interlocking concrete pavements perform over the long term?

Interlocking concrete pavements are designed to last with a service life of 15-20 years. At VYARA, we have numerous examples of projects where our materials have performed exceptionally over such extended periods. Our sales team will be happy to provide references for relevant projects.

What is the white residue on the pavers?/ What is Efflorescence?

Efflorescence: the whitish residue /patching (CaCO3) appearing on concrete is considered as a natural phenomenon. Efflorescence affects, in more or less magnitude, all types of concrete.
Efflorescence on material is not to be treated as a material defect.
Efflorescence generally dissipates over a period of time. Treated or finished materials generally do not exhibit efflorescence. However uncoated material stacked unused at site and exposed to moisture, is likely to exhibit efflorescence.

This condition is greatly minimized with the use of VYARA pavers because of the manufacturing process and materials used by VYARA. Efflorescence will wear off in about 2 to 3 months naturally but it can be removed with some cleaners.

Do pavers need to be mortared into place?

In most cases, no mortar is required for installing concrete pavers. Coarse granular sand is typically used to bind the pavers together through friction joints. This sand is swept into the joints and compacted for proper installation.

For applications like podiums or slabs, it is important to ensure proper waterproofing or drainage, before installation of the paving

What type of sand do I need to use under and between my pavers?

For paver installations, it’s important to use the right type of sand for bedding and jointing to ensure long-lasting performance:

Bedding Sand:

We recommend using sharp, coarse river-washed sand or sharp sand with multi-sized grains. This type of sand binds well when compacted, creating a solid foundation that supports the pavers and prevents moisture from seeping under them. Avoid using fine sand, as it can easily wash out and will not create a proper locking friction joint between the pavers.

Bedding Sand Specifications:

  • Clean, non-plastic, and free from deleterious or foreign matter.
  • Manufactured from crushed rock or natural.
  • Should meet the grading requirements of IS 383:1970 for coarse aggregates.
  • Avoid using limestone screenings, stone dust, or fine sands that don’t conform to IS standards.
  • For high-traffic areas such as roads or container yards, harder bedding sands are recommended for better performance.
  • Sieve sizes and grading should meet the standards set by IS 383:1970 for proper compaction and strength.

Joint Sand:

For jointing, coarse sand ensures that the joints between the pavers are compact and stable, preventing paver movement and moisture infiltration.

  • Should conform to the standards in IS 1542:1992 for sand used in mortar.
  • Use coarse, clean sand to create a solid friction joint between pavers, especially in high-traffic applications.

Summary: Proper sand selection ensures long-term stability and durability of your pavers. We recommend using sharp, coarse sand for both bedding and jointing purposes to bind pavers effectively. For high-traffic or specific project requirements, our team can provide further guidance to meet Indian Standards.

Does the water drain through the sand around the pavers?

No, water does not drain through the sand around the pavers. Initially, there might be some seepage during the first few weeks, but over time, silts and dust in the air will seal the gaps, preventing water from draining through. To manage water runoff effectively, it's essential to build a natural slope into your paver project.

Typically, we recommend a slope of 1 inch for every 8 to 12 feet of paving, directing water away from structures like your home. This ensures proper drainage and prevents water accumulation on your paved surfaces.

How do I control weeds and grass from coming up in my paver patio and walkways?

If the pavers are installed correctly and a compactor is used to lock them into place, the growing environment for weeds is significantly reduced. However, seeds may still blow in and start growing in the sand between the cracks. In such cases, you can easily pull them out or use a weed killer before removing them.

To minimize weed growth, ensure that proper construction sand with minimal silt is used for bedding and jointing of pavers. This helps prevent seeds from taking root and keeps your paver areas looking clean and well-maintained.

Do concrete pavers stain?
While concrete pavers can stain, they are denser than regular poured concrete, making them easier to clean if the stain is addressed promptly. Oil, paint, cement, or mortar spills on your paver patio, walkway, or driveway should be cleaned immediately to avoid permanent staining. If a stain becomes difficult to remove, the affected pavers can easily be replaced, offering a convenient solution without the need for cutting or leaving visible scars in your paving.
How do I replace a paver?
One of the key benefits of using VYARA pavers is the ease of replacing individual pavers if they become stained or damaged. To replace a paver, simply insert a flat-head screwdriver between the stones and gently pry the soiled paver out. If the installation is older and the paver is difficult to remove, you may need to carefully break the paver first before prying it out. Once removed, the new paver can be placed seamlessly without disrupting the surrounding area.
Should I use a sealer on my pavers?

We generally do not recommend sealing pavers on your own. Pavers must be completely dry and clean before sealing, which can be difficult to achieve with jointing sand in place. Sealing can also accentuate any existing dirt or imperfections on the surface.

For optimal results, we recommend ordering factory-sealed pavers that come with PremierShield protection, ensuring the best finish and long-lasting durability.

Can I use concrete pavers near a tree? Will it hurt the tree?

For established trees, as long as you’re not raising the soil level by more than a couple of inches, it generally won't harm the tree. Established trees draw water from underground sources, and pavers allow for air transfer to the roots, unlike solid poured concrete which can suffocate the tree. However, avoid paving over the dripline of newly planted trees.

For best results, consider using VYARA's tree guard paving, specifically designed for this purpose.

How hot are concrete pavers if I use them around a pool as a pool deck?
Concrete pavers, being individual pieces won’t build up heat like a solid sheet of concrete and the heat will tend to dissipate between each stone making pavers a cool product to use around a pool. One cool tip is to always use light colours for a pool deck.
Can I put concrete pavers over a driveway that is cracked in several places?

If your driveway has significant cracks with noticeable heaving or sinking, it’s best to remove the old driveway before laying pavers. However, if the surface is still relatively flat despite the cracks, you can use it as a base for your pavers. Any minor dips can be filled with concrete mix before adding the sand layer for paver installation.
